The Current Situation

What is currently going on in Darfur is not much better than what has been going on in the past. The killing and the number of refugees has dwindled down since the beginning, but the genocide has not stopped. About two million Africans in Sudan have been forced to flee the country, and the population is only six million "The only difference between Rwanda and Darfur now is the numbers involved" (Reeves). And is the crisis is Darfur continues for much longer, the numbers will get closer and closer. But although the numbers of deaths are starting to fall, the conditions are not any better “Women are raped. Men are lined up and shot. Survivors are warned never to return to their sacked villages” (Akwani). The genocide is still taking a toll on its environment and of course its inhabitants. This is an area that is prone to drought, which could also be contributing to the amount of deaths in the genocide.
